Reaction to A Bat Is Born

I. Summary

The poem I chose to summarize and react to is A Bat is Born by Randall Jarrell. The type of this poem seems to be narrative poetry because it seems to tell a story of one night in the life of a new born bat. The poem begins when the bat is born and then tells us what happens through the course of the baby bats first day of life with its mother.

II. Reaction

1. Imagery
The poem uses very vivid imagery. The phrases that are used to describe the events in the baby bat's first day of life give us very clear images in our minds that show us what is happening.
　詩は非常に鮮やかな画像を使用しています。人生の赤ちゃんのバットの最初の日のイベントを記述するために使用されているフレーズは、何が起こっているのかを私たちに示し、私たちの心の中に非常に鮮明な画像を与えます。

2. Connotation
The words that used have strong connotations, they give is strong feelings about what is happening. For example, one line says, 'And then the mother dances through the night'. The word 'dance' gives us a light, happy feeling because we can imagine the wonderful feeling of dancing in the air.
　強い意味合いを持って使用される言葉は、彼らに何が起こっているかについての強い感情を与えます。例えば、1行目は'夜を通してそして母の踊り'と言います。我々は空気中のダンスの素晴らしい感覚を想像することができますので、明るく、幸せな感じを与えてくれます。

3. Personification
The poem also personifies the bats somewhat. Certainly the word 'dances' is a personification in that dancing is mostly a human activity, and to describe the bat's flying as dancing makes the reader think of the bats as being like people to some extent.

III. General Opinion
The poem gives a warm, loving and positive feeling about the mother bat and her baby. The reader can feel the strong, nurturing connection between mother and child, and this feeling is comforting.
