CALL Reading Reaction Journal 5 - Short Film

I. Summary

I chose to summarize and react to the short film, The Most Beautiful Thing made in 2012 and written, directed and edited by Cameron Covell. In this film a very shy young high school student creates a relationship with another student who is unable to hear. Their relationship starts slowly and has some difficulties because of miscommunication, but ultimately they are able to overcome their misunderstandings and develop their relationship.

II. Reaction

1. Main characters
The young man's character in the film is very lonely and on the outside of the social scene of 'the popular students'. He shows great tenderness and a true desire to build a positive relationship with his love interest.

2. Acting
The acting in the film is quite good. The characters are very well realized by the actors Nick Lopez and Analisa Gutierrez. As we watch them we truly believe they are those people and we identify with their problems and their struggle to find love with each other.

III. General Opinion:

It is easy to see why this film won two awards, the LASCHA 2012 Moon Dance Best Film Award and the Best Actor Award. This film is very touching and can easily bring tears of happiness to the eyes of even the most unsentimental person. I would recommend this film to anyone interested in love stories.
